Beauty
And ugliness,
Matters of will.
Or perhaps, of fate.
The night is the owl’s treasure
And the cuckoo’s ruin.
Normality,
A tree with ever-branching limbs,
A cradle for butterflies
With wandering desires.
The cat laughs
At the arrogance of the owl
Who mocks the cuckoo’s misfortune,
While he himself
Fades before the cheerfulness of day.
And they,
They mock the cat’s pretension,
Divided among a thousand hunts.

The Mirror Room

Such a beautifully woven tapestry of nature’s contrasts and connections.
I think this is really about how much perspective changes the way we judge things. What seems beautiful or normal to one person might look completely different to someone else. Even the owl and the cuckoo switch places depending on whether it’s night or day, which makes all those judgments feel a lot less absolute.
