INCOMPLETE
I flee the waves of the night,
As one flees a wounded, ferocious animal.
The sound of its footsteps terrifies me.
I learned to avoid them
By running before I had even learned to walk.
“Run, run,
Don’t look it in the eyes.”
I ignored its tears,
Mistaking them for the rain
I was always taught to avoid.
But who would want to arrive soaking wet
At society’s ball?
INCOMPLETE
For wasn’t the rain I kept running from
The only thing that could show me
The leaks in the roof of my own home?

The Mirror Room

The metaphor of the night as a wounded animal is so vivid. It really makes you think about the things we run from and why.
I would really appreciate the meaning you have behind the poem x
